Girl shot in the chest at play park by high-powered air gun 'could have been killed'

The pellet became lodged in the 16-year-old's breast bone and she had to be taken to hospital by ambulance.
The incident happened at around 7.30pm on Friday, February 5 at the play park behind Vale Walk in Ferrybridge.

Hide AdThe teenager had been for a walk with a friend and they sat at the park and chatted in the dark.
Neither heard the sound of a gun being fired, suggesting it could have been from some distance.
The girl's mother, who does not want to be named, said: "She did not realise she had been shot until the blood started coming through her top.
"I think she was just in shock. She had a cross around her neck and it hit that and then stuck in her breast bone.

Hide Ad"Doctors left it in because they said it could cause more harm to try and take it out. She has been very sore.
"I'm disgusted because it could have killed her. It could gave gone into her heart, or could have gone into her and blinded her.
"I don't want it to happen to anyone else, these people who did this need finding before somebody is seriously hurt or killed."
Meanwhile, police are asking people to come forward with any information about those responsible.
